Proteo helps you log food and hit a protein target — especially when your appetite is low on GLP-1 medication. It is built to do that with as little of your data as possible. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what leaves your phone and what never does.
The short version. Proteo has no account, no login, and asks for no name or email on our servers. Meal photos are analyzed to estimate nutrition and are not stored by us afterward. Your Apple Health data stays between your device and Apple Health. There are no ad trackers, no analytics SDKs, and we never sell your data.
Proteo is published by Tyko, an independent atelier of native iOS apps. When this policy says "we," "us," or "Tyko," it means the publisher of Proteo. You can reach us any time at privacy@tyko.app.
When you scan a meal, the photo — or the text description you type instead — is sent over an encrypted connection to Tyko's analysis service. There, an AI vision model identifies the foods and estimates portions, and a nutrition database computes the protein, calories, carbs, and fat. The result comes back to your phone. We do not keep your meal photos after the estimate is returned, and we do not use them to build a profile of you or to train advertising.
If you grant permission, Proteo reads your most recent body weight so your protein target stays accurate, and writes the protein and calories you log so your other health apps stay in sync. This exchange happens directly between your device and Apple Health. Your HealthKit data is never sent to Tyko's servers, and Proteo never uses Health data for advertising or shares it with third parties. You can turn either permission off at any time in the iOS Health app or Settings.
To talk to the analysis service and apply fair-use limits, your device holds a random token stored in the iOS Keychain. It is not your name, email, phone number, or Apple ID, and it is not linked to your real-world identity. Removing the app deletes your on-device data, but because the token lives in the Keychain it can persist across reinstalls. To clear it yourself, open Settings → Delete all data in the app: it erases everything on the device and resets the token, and asks our service to purge the data tied to it. You can also email us any time.
When you adjust an item's portion, Proteo saves that correction — the food's name and the gram amount, tied to your anonymous device token — to the analysis service, so the same dish can default to your correction next time. A correction carries no photo and nothing that identifies you.
Proteo sends a small number of anonymous product events (for example, that a paywall was shown) tied only to the anonymous device token. These events help us understand which steps work. They contain no meal photos and no health information — only the event name.
Subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. Apple handles your payment. Proteo receives your subscription status from Apple to unlock features — we never see your card number or billing details.
Your name from onboarding, your medication and shot-day settings, your goals, and your logged meals and history are stored on your iPhone. Deleting the app removes them.
To run the analysis service, Proteo relies on a small number of infrastructure providers acting on our behalf and under our instructions:
We do not share your data with anyone else, and we never sell it.
Meal photos are processed transiently and are not retained after the estimate is returned. Anonymous usage events are kept only as long as needed to understand product performance. Everything tied to your day-to-day use of Proteo lives on your device, under your control.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as access, correction, or deletion) under laws like the GDPR or CCPA. Because we hold no account and no directly identifying information, most data is already in your hands — but you can always write to privacy@tyko.app and we will help.
Proteo is intended for adults managing their nutrition and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country).
Proteo is an informational tool for tracking food and protein. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, dosing, or treatment, and it is not a substitute for your doctor or pharmacist. Always follow the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional about your medication and nutrition.
If we change how Proteo handles data, we will update this page and move the effective date at the top. Meaningful changes will be surfaced in the app where appropriate.
